I am Michael Thalmann, a Swiss concert pianist whose musical life has
been shaped among other things by a deep engagement with the music
of Franz Liszt.
I now present ‘Five Perspectives on Liszt’, five thematic recital programmes
that trace a ‘spiritual’, non-chronological path from Vallée d’Obermann to
Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude, from worldly melancholy and inner
struggle to the fullness of life, architectural grandeur and deep pain to
ultimate transcendence.
Each programme can be performed individually or as part of a more
complete cycle that reveals the many facets of one of the most dazzling
creative personalities in music history.
